WINE PRODUCTION

VINEYARDS IN SAN GIMIGNANO

The company, which is located one kilometre from San Gimignano, covers about 60 hectares of vineyards and olive groves on a hill opposite San Gimignano. The old farmhouse, which gives the area its name, was a friary in times past, which enjoyed the strategic location of the house and the wealth of the surrounding land.

Azienda Agricola Casale di Riccardo Falchini was founded in 1964 and specialised vineyards had already been planted by 1968. Later, in 1976, the new wine cellar was established, fitted with modern equipment for winemaking and bottling. For 25 years the company has successfully exported worldwide to countries including Australia, Japan, the US and many EU countries. Our wines have received awards and certificates in the best international competitions, including two Gran Medaglie d’Oro at Vinitaly 1996.

The wines produced by the company are from estate vineyards located in the San Gimignano area. The white wines of the company are based primarily on Vernaccia di San Gimignano grapes, a variety that has been cultivated on these hills for more than a millennium. The lands of the Casale vineyards have a rich clay component, supported by yellow sand and numerous marine fossils from the Pliocene period (6 million years ago). In fact, the hills of San Gimignano were part of an ancient submerged sea. It is this prehistoric marine component that gives both the white and red wines of San Gimignano their strong and pleasant minerality.
